Frequently asked questions
About trailer rentals

General information about travel trailer can be found below. Please read all the questions, as this will help with your reservation and planning for your trip. Information specific to renting a trailer at Lake Casitas is listed after general information. Please read both sections if you are staying at Lake Casitas.

What does the interior of the trailer include?
All trailers have full kitchens, bathrooms, sleeping areas and dinettes. Kitchens include refrigerator, freezer, stove, oven, microwave and sink. Bathrooms include shower (tub), toilet and sink. Sleeping arrangements vary.  Please see trailer floor plans on the Rental Rates page.

Are there TVs in the trailers?

No. We rent TV/VCRs for $20 per rental. Please let us know at the time of your reservation if you would like to rent a TV. Renters can bring their own TVs, we recommend bringing a 30’ cable to be able to connect to the campground post.

What supplies are included with the trailer?

We no longer supply dishes or pots and pans.  The trailers are stocked with a coffee maker, toaster, RV toilet paper and toilet chemicals.

What to bring?
Bring all linens, including sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows and towels.  Bring kitchen supplies such as, dishes, cups, bowls, flatware, pots and pans, cutting knives and cutting board, cooking utensils, mixing bowls, can opener and bottle opener.  Bring a strike-lighter to light the stove and bug spray or Ajax to keep ants out of the trailer.  Bring anything normally used for camping, such as; flashlights, battery operated lantern, spare batteries, sunscreen, soap, drinking water, extra chairs, paper towels or kitchen towels,  a cooler for transporting food and keeping it cool until the refrigerator is cold and an indoor/outdoor carpet or mat for in front of the trailer.

How long does the refrigerator take to become cold?

Several hours.  Do not fill the refrigerator full of food before it is cold, otherwise, it will take much longer for the refrigerator to cool down.  Keep your food in a cooler until the refrigerator is cold.  On really hot days it can take 5 hours for the refrigerator to cool down.

Does CTR rent generators?
No. Renters may rent a generator somewhere else, but it must have a minimum of 3500 – 5000 watts. Anything less will ruin the trailer’s electrical system. Use of a generator must be approved by CTR before renter may use one with our trailers.

Will the trailer’s electrical system run off battery?

Yes, but trailers do not work very well with batteries. We recommend hooking up to electricity whenever possible or using a generator. Batteries last approximately 24-48 hours before needing to be recharged (or replaced) and only the lights, water pump, water heater, thermostat and refrigerator will work. At Lake Casitas we will replace drained batteries with recharged batteries for a $20.00 fee.

Does the trailer have heat and air conditioning?

Yes, the trailer has heating and air conditioning; however, there is no air conditioning when the trailer is run off batteries. Once batteries are dead (no charge left), then there is no heating until the batteries are recharged or replaced. This is a serious concern in cold weather, since batteries may die in the middle of the night.

Air conditioning:

The air conditioning and the microwave should not be used at the same time, as this may overload the electrical circuit. Turn off the AC when using the microwave. Also, do not set the AC below 70 degrees, otherwise the unit may freeze and no cooling will be available.

Does the trailer have to be connected to a sewer hook-up?

No, but we highly recommend it. Travel trailers have two holding tanks; one for grey water (kitchen sink, bathroom sink and shower waste) and one for black water (toilet waste). Each holding tank holds approximately 30-35 gallons of waste before needing to be dumped. If a trailer is connected to sewer hook-ups then the renter will have unlimited use of water because the waste water is continually draining to the sewer. If a trailer is without sewer hook-ups, we recommend renters use campground showers to conserve water and to avoid having to dump the holding tanks too often. If water backs up into the shower, it means the grey water tank is full and must be dumped before moving the trailer. At Lake Casitas we will pump the holding tanks for a $25 - $40 fee.

What do we do if the toilet will not drain?

Clean it out. Paper may be stuck in the drain, so be very careful to completely wipe out the drain while holding the seal open. Do not put anything in the toilet except RV toilet paper. Do not put paper towels, feminine hygiene products, baby wipes or napkins in the toilet as they may create a plug in the holding tank.

Do you offer storage for trailers?

No, but Lake Casitas does. Please call 805-649-2233 for more information.

Do you sell used trailers?
